Lyme Regis match report (19th May 2022)

After a lovely lunch in the sunshine at a sun-drenched Lyme Regis, our bowlers were ready to take on the opposition. A few ends after the start, the rink of Jo Spence, Bill Light and Mo Perry found themselves well ahead with our other two rinks just in the lead. As the game progressed in the heat of Lyme, the rink of Simon Penny, Trevor Guppy and Ron Homer had a real tussle on their hands with their game changing leaders a couple of times.

The rink of Georgina Park, Debbie Guppy and Eric Rendell had a really hard task on their hands. Eric, in only his second proper game, had to play as skip and Georgina had to retire feeling unwell. Even though the odds were stacked against them Debbie brought the rink home victorious, well done guys. Prior to Georgina not feeling well, Jo gave us a scare when she fell over and this was before her usual wine.

As always, we are very grateful to our helpers who give up their time to help the VIs achieve what they did. Also, throughout the game we heard a great deal of praise for Simon Penny, playing as lead he had a great game, well done Si.

To top the day, the Lyme Regis bowls club gave the draw money to us for our funds. Grateful thanks to the Lyme Regis bowls club for their generosity.

Somerton match report (8th June 2022)

Another great afternoon for the bowlers of YVIBC enjoying the warm friendly atmosphere shown to them by the players and staff at Somerton bowls club. Even though one of our rinks fell behind during the first half of the game, we were all level. Once again, the laughter from Simon and the team could be heard across all rinks, which is exactly the atmosphere you want to play bowls in.

The captain of the day Mo (bless him), really had a torrid time trying to establish the line needed and failed to bring his rink home losing by two shots. With two rinks losing, we did manage to avoid a whitewash with a drawn game skipped by Ron Homer. Half time refreshments were laid on for us, as well as the customary raffle. As the fixture was so successful, the good people of Somerton invited us back next year before we left. Thanks once again to Jeff for our transport on the day and to our helpers who are so generous with their time and sometimes patience!
